Nurse-Family Partnership Receives Funds
The Gift of Life Nurse-Family Partnership has been awarded
a $25,000 Children’s Trust Fund grant through the Department of Child Abuse
and Neglect Prevention (DCANP). DCANP
is the only state department dedicated to the “prevention” of child abuse.
It funds some 175 community based programs that work to prevent child
abuse and neglect prevention. State
Representative John Knight (D)-Montgomery and Senator Quinton Ross
(D)-Montgomery were on hand to present the funds to Montgomery County recipients
during the January 12th check presentation ceremony, which was held
at the RSA Building in downtown Montgomery.
Agencies submitted applications for consideration of their 2010-2011
child abuse and neglect prevention programs.
Nurse-Family Partnership is an evidence-based home
visitation community health program with three decades of research proving it
works. The program empowers women
to change their families’ lives for the better.
Family outcomes have shown in one or more of the NFP randomized
controlled trials a 48% reduction in child abuse and neglect.
